Description and uses

AAEMA is a special methacrylic ester monomer with a reactive methylene group. It is used as a copolymer for coatings and adhesives in emulsion polymerisation (waterborne dispersions) or solvent polymerisation (high solids).

AAEMA provides improved mechanical and solvent resistance against water or organic solvents e.g. alcohols, which cannot be achieved with standard formulations. In addition it acts as an adhesion promotor to metallic, mineral and wood surfaces. Mainly it is used as a copolymer with acrylates and styrene acrylates in waterborne dispersions for wood-, industrial- and top coatings, fillers, adhesives and sealants.

AAEMA is also used as a styrene replacement in unsaturated polyesters (UP).
